SNFCC Light Installations

Home of the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) in Athens is a sustainable architectural masterpiece designed by the renowned Renzo Piano. High up on the SNFCC’s green roof, the Stavros Niarchos Park is the building’s crowning glory.

When we met the SNFCC in 2019, an intimate high quality light art festival was already taking place at the Park, one among hundreds of cultural activities organized by the SNFCC yearly.

Our collaboration began from a tiny seed: a single artwork from our collection. That seed has since branched out into a four-year partnership.

A shining light in the local art scene

With our creative and technical guidance, Light Installations at the Stavros Niarchos Park featured 5 artworks in its most recent edition. The development of our partnership has enabled us to take greater curatorial responsibility in its artistic growth.

We work with SNFCC to develop a broad thematic approach to site-specific light art, as well as take care of artist management. The Park’s most challenging yet special location—its signature Dome—has become a favorite to look forward to every year.

In addition to providing works from our collection (plus the production expertise to install them), we source light artworks from our extensive global network. This frees up capacity for the SNFCC to focus on its open call for local light art, as part of its mission to nurture and support the vibrant Greek art scene.
