GLØD
To celebrate Stavanger’s 900th birthday, its municipality and city planners were eager to initiate a brand new light art festival. After all, what is a better way to bring warmth and connection to the community during the long Norwegian winters? Therefore, they sought the expertise of Light Art Collection.
Next to collecting, exhibiting and producing exceptional light art, we’re also keen to share our knowledge with others. Since the city planners wanted to create a distinctive artistic vision combined with practical know-how, our curator Pam Toonen joined forces with Amsterdam Light Festival's lead curator Jin Choi. They provided a three-days consulting session, including tailored workshops, brainstorm sessions and site visits to guide them through every aspect of creating a successful light art festival.
During the sessions, the city planners would work on challenges like: how to organize a meaningful light art event? How to curate works for various public spaces? What does a festival need in terms of organization and planning? The workshops truly helped to tickle their brains and draw a first outline of their light art festival.
In order to immerse themselves into light art and gain a firsthand experience, the Norwegian team also visited our Amsterdam Light Festival. Seeing the magic for themselves enriched their artistic vision, which would eventually lead to the extraordinary light art festival Glød.
The first edition of Glød was a great success. Thanks to the creative power of the city of Stavanger and Light Art Collection, a proudly independent organization currently produces the festival. We remain committed to deliver high quality light art for the festival and are happy to support its continued growth and flourishment in the future.
