Festival des Arts de Bordeaux
We are excited to have made a light art contribution to the outstanding international and interdisciplinary cultural Festival des Arts Bordeaux. The scope of its programme is broad and meaningful, consisting of theatre, dance, performance, music and visual arts - just to name a few.
Along the Garonne River our production team placed Moonburn, a huge phosphorizing moon by Stichting Barstow. The selected artwork was originally commissioned by Amsterdam Light Festival and afterwards added to our collection.
Moonburn shows the universal expressiveness of high-quality light art: the work will thrive in an international context when curated and placed with care. In Bordeaux, the light art installation created a dialogue between the cultural festival and Bordeaux’s harbor, which boasts the poetic name ‘Port of the Moon’. While some believe that this name was given due to the shape of the river's meander, others see it as the power of the moon over the rhythm of the tides, which allowed ships to move far inland.
Moonburn forms a poetic reference not only to cultural exchange, but also to our human relation with luminous celestial bodies such as the moon, from ancient times to the present. At Light Art Collection, we look back on a meaningful art exchange with a culturally outstanding partner.
