Vibhor Sogani is known internationally for his chrome-like steel public art installations. They’re grand and vast forms of beautifully fabricated steel spheres, curves and almost fungi-like shapes. In contrast to the materials they are made from, they have a familiar, living quality given to them by the careful sculpting of beautiful, natural curves.
Almost alien-like, the expansive chrome garden of bulbs in Pool of Dreams reflects the surroundings from within, warping the environment around the mirror spheres into an otherworldly and dreamlike form. Sogani’s super reflective surfaces draw the landscape in which is why you can find much of his work in vast natural surroundings. The interplay between the biological forms of Sogani’s sculptures and the natural world speak of a living, organic technology evolving from the crude material of steel through the continually advancing manufacturing process.
The garden of mirror fungi in Pool of Dreams tells a story about the triumph of technology, to process iron into steel and then form it into something beautiful. The spheres capture us and draw us into a contemplative state where we consider the past, present and future where the lines between them are blurred and smooth.
