Nocturnal Dialogue

For this installation, Dutch artist Ralf Westerhof and Saudi artist Talal Al Zeid have worked together to create an original piece. This collaboration is an occasion for them to celebrate art through a light sculpture, with different cultures coming together and speaking one language to deliver a unique experience.

Nocturnal Dialogue is a collection of everyday inspirations from the middle east: its people, nature, architecture, and streets. It celebrates culture from an artistic perspective, giving our daily lives a new dimension. The result of an ongoing dialogue between the artists, the piece reflects on their experience in the fast-paced, hyper-connected world we live in today. Being quite the opposite of fast-paced, more like a monument to minimalistic presence, the work allows for a moment of contemplation in our day.

About the artist

Ralf Westerhof (1977) started his creative career as a theatre scenographer and a visual artist creating several kinetic sculptures. These spatial drawings, inspired by Egon Schiele, are made of hand-bent wires that retain their shape through a number of vertical lines that hang from a mobile. In 2014, he took part in the Amsterdam Light Festival and this resounding performance enabled him to subsequently realise a series of new productions and exhibitions all over Europe, as well as in Asia and South America.
Talal Al Zeid (1981) is a Saudi artist from Ha’il. He grew up in Europe, where he began his career in graffity art. He has exhibited his works at Scope Basel, Vienna Art Fair, Abu Dhabi Art Fair, Art Curial in Paris, and more. Select works are on public display at the Britisch Counsel in London, Yas Island in Abu Dhabi and King Abdulaziz Center for Knowledge and Culture in Dahran.
